While reading Tape Op #128, I came upon Larry Crane's review of Qdea's Synchronize! Pro X backup software. About half way through I came upon the dreaded phrase "for Mac OS only." No worries! I'm a Windows user and I've been using Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows for free! That's right, it's free. After downloading and installing it, you can configure backups for an external drive, NAS (Network Attached Storage), or file server share. Veeam Agent creates a full system backup using the built in Windows restore point feature. The first backup takes a normal amount of time, but subsequent backups can be done in a matter of minutes depending on the amount of new data and the speed of your drive. I have an external SATA to USB 3.0 dock. Veeam Agent even supports rotation of drives. Drives are getting cheaper all the time, so I rotate several SSDs and spinning hard drives and Veeam Agent automatically ejects my drives when the backup is done. The app supports full system or individual file restores with an easy to use interface, and best of all – it's free!
