I must admit to being a closet prog rock fan. I saw King Crimson when I was 18 (Discipline tour!) at a tiny club, and again in the mid '90s. Trey was playing his crazy Warr guitar on that tour and making all sorts of fun sounds and rhythms. Here his own band lays down some wild instrumentals, some in a King Crimson vein and some not. Both records were mostly recorded at Dangerous Music in NYC, though Live... is live (duh) with an audience and Joy is a crafted aural treat. Drummer Bob Muller handled most of Joy and Chris Muth tracked Live. The recording sounds on Joy are a blast to listen to, as it seems like they went for a variety of textures and effects. I think I'm a prog-head again.
