The Marinernine is a band which contains Brian McTear and Jason Knight, those lovable oafs from the Trip to Athens story from Tape Op #5. I was expecting some sort of rock band thing here but lucky for me I got something completely different. Apparently they recorded various ambient and noisy backing tracks and then performed spontaneously on top of these tracks. This could spell disaster, but these cats pull off some nifty moves, coming off like true inheritors of the Krautrock crown (unlike all these ex-rock bands playing one chord all night!) Oh yeah, they also prove they know their way around a studio (namely their own, Miner Street). The stuff is crystal clear, well recorded and a treat to listen to!
