Mark Isham & Kate Ceberano: Bittersweet

Jazz trumpet player, well-known film composer and electronic music artist Mark met Australian vocalist Kate Ceberano and they created this jazz album, Bittersweet, covers of jazz standards about broken hearts. Mark Isham not only played stellar trumpet on this collaboration, he served as its producer. The CD was ably recorded and mixed by Bernie Kirsch (who has a a great jazz engineering background) at Mad Hatter Studios in Hollywood and assisted by Buck Snow and Melissa Kirkland. Mastering was by the legendary Bernie Grundman at his Bernie Grundman Mastering in Hollywood. A backing band of Alan Pasqua (piano), Tom Warrington (bass) and Peter Erskine (drums) doesn't hurt in catching the late night, smoky vibe of these mostly downtempo tracks. With top players and the singer laying down tracks live in a room, the depth and dynamics in this recording are a pleasure. Considering the quality of the playing, the songs and the sound, I can see why Bittersweet made it to #2 on the Australian jazz charts. Nice. www.BittersweetTheAlbum.com
