We reviewed the Lapins' previous album, Parlez-Moi d'Amour, in issue #63, and like that album, Amourettes was recorded and co-produced by Pat Dillett (Tape Op #79) at the now-closed Kampo Studios in New York City. A collection of 70-plus year old French songs of flirtation, sung in French (of course) and played acoustic - how can one go wrong? A combination of great instrumentation with strings, muted horns supporting acoustic guitar, banjo and ukulele arrangements set the right mood. Pat once again proves that he's no slouch in the recording department; this album sounds so natural and perfect, befitting the material. An enjoyable treat. Mastered by Ue Nastasi at Sterling Sound.
