In Tape Op #76 I interviewed drummer, producer, engineer, songwriter Alan Evans of the band Soulive. He's recently formed this ready- to-tour combo to record and play a batch of his new tunes. Wanna hear hot, funky, groovy organ/drums/guitar music? Here it is! In the vein of Soulive, and most certainly a nod to The Meters, Alan is joined by Danny Mayer on guitar and Beau Sasser on organ to deliver some mostly instrumental and highly danceable tracks - all recorded in five days. Alan told us he "recorded Drop Hop at the 'new' Playonbrother Studios, a.k.a. my home basement. I love it. I've been mixing a lot of albums for people lately, but 99% of the recording that goes on here is my music." And it's great music! <www.royalfamilyrecords.com, playonbrother.com>
